The Portland Mercury’s Open Season series of fashion runway shows made the perfect excuse to check in on some of Portland’s upcoming fashions for 2014. I stopped by Mississippi Studios earlier this week to scope out the new house line from Mag-Big.

I’ve been a big fan of Cassie Ridgway and Mag-Big since the early days of her shop on Hawthorne, and I love seeing sneak peeks from their sewing space. Mag-Big’s house line for Spring/Summer 2014 upped the ante, and brought an awesome mix of flowing garments and rich, velvet pieces that made me think wistfully of the crushed velvet of my ’90s youth.

We loved the pieces that Noniko Jewelry brought to the collection. Their blend of textures, bold shapes, and tribal style was a wonderful fit with Mag-Big’s gathering of garments.

Eve Skywalker also added some striking touches to the gathering of looks with her ombre tights. I loved the beautifully blended colors!

This might have been my favorite fabric of the entire show. The sheer peek-a-boo patterning with the rich velvety texture looked awesome and moved beautifully!

Cassie brought together an awesome team of collaborators for this collection, and you could tell how much passion they put into the garments, and how many hours they spent in the trenches together. Amazing work, ladies!
